It is pointed out that the limitations of the current self-isolation guidelines have been exposed due to the case of a family member infected with the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) mutant virus after entering the country from the UK.
According to the Central Defense Countermeasures Headquarters (Bang Dae-bon) on the 2nd, three of their families were found to be infected with a mutant virus originating from the UK following their 80s who died while living in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do after entering the country.
These families entered Korea on November 8 (1 person) and December 13 (3 people) last year.
Among them, the first one who entered Korea was confirmed on the 27th of last month as the self-isolation period ended.
Unlike other family members who entered the country later than himself, this confirmed person was informed that he used multi-use facilities such as beauty salons, hospitals, and marts before confirmation, raising concerns about spreading in the community.
The quarantine authorities are explaining that no one has been confirmed to date among those who have come into contact with the confirmed person. In addition, he added that no violation of the quarantine guidelines was found because he was engaged in outside activities after the self-isolation period was over.
Even if this confirmed person did not cause infection of others in outside activities, there remains a point to consider for self-quarantine quarantine management.
The question is whether there are sharp measures to prevent the case of new confirmation after living with a family member in a situation where the self-isolation period has already ended, like this confirmed person.
In fact, it is known that there is no unprecedented precedent that caused the spread of infection while living in one space with a family after entering Korea.
According to the current’Corona 19 Response Guidelines’, self-isolation is “in principle, living alone in an independent space equipped with a shower room and toilet, but in the case of unavoidable circumstances, such as in the case of disabled or infants, they can be separated jointly with people living with them. It is prescribed.
If possible, there is a content to use a separate toilet with other people and thoroughly disinfect, but it is literally a’rule of living’ or’principle’, and is not mandatory.
In addition, it is difficult to confirm whether or not they are in contact with other family members in the house, which is a private space, and whether personal items are thoroughly used, and it is practically difficult to provide specific guidelines in situations where the living spaces are varied.
Regarding this, Sook-young Lim, general manager of the situation, explained that “there is a difficulty in being able to live in one space with a family because self-sufficiency is isolated at home.”
The quarantine authorities emphasize that it is more important than anything else to strictly follow the quarantine rules on their own, as well as their families.
Whether there are tricks to supplement the living rules of self-isolation targets and their family members and domestic partners is a task to consider, and it is necessary to adhere to the current rules faithfully.
There have also been several known cases of’best practice’ that prevented further spread by following the rules of self-isolation. For example, in many cases, parents prepare separate vehicles for their children who have entered the country to move to each other, or in many cases, the guidelines for self-isolation are thoroughly followed by allowing the family to leave the house and stay alone.
Regarding the necessity of supplementing the guidelines, Director Lim said, “I think publicity and education are necessary so that traffic lines in the house do not overlap, use of toilets, separate meals, etc.”
