Infection record in Telemark: – Wants tightening after «horror day»

70 people have been registered infected in Telemark in the last 24 hours. It is the highest ever, writes Varden, which describes it as a “day of terror”.

53 of the new cases of infection have been registered in Skien municipality, which is the second highest so far in the pandemic. In Skien, there was a chairmanship meeting on new measures on Wednesday afternoon.

Among other things, the politicians decided to introduce a ban on more than five people visiting private homes and the obligation to bandage, reports Varden.

In addition, a halt was introduced in leisure activities and indoor sports indoors for everyone over the age of 16, and at restaurants, a maximum of five people can now sit around a table, writes NTB.

Want a stop

In the neighboring town of Porsgrunn, 11 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, and mayor Robin Martin Kåss in Porsgrunn now wants the state to take over control.

– Our wish is that you have government measures. It is the best way to coordinate in the area we are in. But not everyone agrees, he says to Dagbladet.

– I think it would have been the most favorable to kill the infection quickly, since so much of the infection is across municipal boundaries.

On Wednesday morning, all the municipalities in Vestfold and Telemark met with the State Administrator, where the situation in the individual municipality, as well as the way forward, was a topic.

According to Kåss, Porsgrunn was alone in its desire for government measures.

On Wednesday, the councilor in Porsgrunn requested a dialogue with the neighboring municipalities, and that together they should ask the state to introduce a common regulation for the municipalities in Grenland. The desire is to introduce measure level 5B – the government’s second most stringent measure level – which, among other things, entails a stop to drinking and restrictions on the number of visitors, until 20 May.

If it is not possible to reach an agreement on state governance, the councilor in Porsgrunn hopes that it is possible to reach an agreement on a local regulation corresponding to the government’s level 5B.

– We want this in common for Grenland, and are now awaiting what the others decide, says Kåss.

Porsgrunn has a meeting on new measures in the presidency on Thursday.

The municipalities in the Grenlands area have previously been subject to the government’s strictest level of measures, 5A.

– Very serious

On Monday, Kåss told Dagbladet that he wanted measures that reduce mobility in the region.

– We have implemented measures on our own, with bandages and certain restrictions. But it does not help to shut down just with us. The routes of infection run crosswise. We are dependent on coordinating with the surrounding municipalities, he said.

In addition to the cases in Skien and Porsgrunn, three infected people have been registered in Kragerø and one new case in each of the municipalities of Notodden, Bamble, Siljan, Midt-Telemark and Nome.

In Porsgrunn, there are now more than 1,500 inhabitants in quarantine, and the situation is becoming increasingly extensive, the mayor says.

– The situation is very serious in the sense that there are already relatively high numbers and it seems to be rising. This seems to be regional, with many cases across municipal boundaries, and it is not easy to handle, says Kåss.
