Infection record in Oslo: – 367 new cases

In the last 24 hours, 367 new cases of infection have been registered – the highest in a day in Oslo so far in the pandemic.

That is 74 more than the same day last week, when 293 cases were registered.

The new infection record comes barely five days after the previous record was set, with 352 infected in the course of a day.

– The rules of the game changed

On Tuesday morning, health councilor Robert Steen told Dagbladet that despite strict measures, the infection has more than quadrupled since the beginning of February.

– There is no doubt that we are in a third wave of infection and that Oslo is in a serious situation. We have never been close to registering such a high level of infection as we have done lately, he says and continues:

– When the British mutant first entered the country, the rules of the game were changed.

The measures that had worked several times until then are now too weak, Steen emphasizes.

– It is especially among children and young people that the infection increases, and we see that kindergarten and school are a place of infection for between 30 and 40 percent for these. This is new, and it came with the British-mutated virus.

He also points out that there is a sharp increase in the number of people who become so ill that they are admitted to hospital, and that they are younger than before.

– In addition, we now know that many young people also get side effects from corona. That is the reason why last night we introduced new, strict measures in the city with a ban on more than two visitors in private homes and stricter measures in schools. We must do everything we can to kill the virus, as we have done in the past.

– Completely necessary

The new measures, which were announced on Monday night, come on top of the already intrusive measures in Oslo.

– Today’s infection figures show that it has been absolutely necessary to take action, as Oslo municipality did yesterday, says assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad in the Norwegian Directorate of Health to Dagbladet.

Just hours after the tightening in Oslo, Minister of Health Bent Høie also announced very strict measures throughout Viken county.

– We must probably expect still high infection rates a few days ahead in Oslo and Viken, says Nakstad.

The measures apply from Wednesday. In Oslo, among other things, a ban will be introduced on more than two visitors in private homes.

In addition, secondary schools and upper secondary schools are now closed. Homeschooling is also being introduced for grades 5-7 for all schools in the districts of Grorud, Stovner, Alna, Bjerke, Old Oslo, Grünerløkka and Søndre Nordstrand. These districts have over time had the highest infection pressure, and it is therefore necessary with particularly strict measures here.

Nakstad told Dagbladet TV on Monday that the test in Oslo is now so large that the TISK strategy approaching the breaking point.

– It is approaching the breaking point when it comes to analyzes in laboratories and what is also possible to trace and map infection, Nakstad says to Dagbladet TV.

– Then you are in a very serious situation. We are approaching that, and that is one of the reasons why it is important to reverse the trend.

Nakstad is also concerned about the number of hospitalizations in Eastern Norway, which has recently skyrocketed. On Monday, a total of 193 corona patients were admitted to Health South-East.
