The corona virus load in Cottbus wastewater rose continuously between mid-June and mid-October 2024. This is shown by wastewater monitoring by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
The RKI examines the wastewater in a total of 169 sewage treatment plants throughout Germany in order to be able to draw conclusions about the dynamics of infection. This works because pathogens are also excreted in certain diseases.
The measured viral load in Cottbus in mid-October was still below the level measured in the winter of last year (mid-October 2024: 1,110 thousand gene copies per liter, mid-November 2023 1,700 thousand gene copies per liter). Nevertheless, the number has almost doubled since mid-September.
The officially reported corona cases in Cottbus are currently in the lower double-digit range. However, the city assumes that the number of unreported cases is high because not everyone with cold symptoms takes a corona test and positive results are not always passed on – despite the obligation to report.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, the activity of viral respiratory infections is currently at a comparatively high level. Increasing flu cases are also being recorded in Cottbus. According to the RKI, rhinoviruses in particular are currently in circulation.
In the event of a corona infection, there is no longer any obligation to isolate. However, the city of Cottbus advises you to take it easy if you become infected, to stay at home and to contact your family doctor by telephone first.
