A child infectiologist considers the opening of primary schools to be harmless. “From my point of view, I believe that elementary schools could be opened safely at the moment,” said Johannes Huebner from the Hauner Children’s Hospital at the University of Munich’s Clinic to Bavarian Broadcasting. “The smaller the children are, the lower the risk that they will transmit the virus.”
The children suffer from the missed lessons and have deficits, as Hübner emphasized. Therefore, “primary schools should be reopened as soon as possible and then secondary schools as soon as possible.” The coordinator of the Covid-Kids-Bavaria study is investigating the infection rate in Bavarian primary schools over a period of several months.
All schools in Bavaria are closed until at least January 31st. The children have to study from home, only emergency care is provided.
