The trade union organizations of the Infanta Sofía University Hospital They have called a concentration this Friday at 9:00 a.m., in front of the main door, to claim the opening of tower 4 and the commissioning of the 16 ICU beds that are in the same unused, as revealed by the program ‘Saved’.
In addition, they have registered a letter this Wednesday to expose their “total disagreement” as to the fact that “in the middle of the second wave of the pandemic, these beds continue to be unavailable.”
Meanwhile, according to union organizations, critical patients have to occupy other spaces in the center, such as the post anesthetic resuscitation unit, which entails the “decrease in surgical activity”, among other things.
They have also criticized that ” 12 positions that are currently used as critical covid patient positions are located in an open room, so patients do not have any privacy, being able to give situations incompatible with the humanization of cares that is looked for in these units “.
On the other hand, they have warned of the “increased risk of transmission of cross infections” and have pointed out that, “given the current evidence on the transmission of the SARS-COV-2 virus by aerosols, unnecessary exposure of workers is totally unacceptable. existing 16 individual boxes not enabled “.
For all these reasons, the trade union organizations have requested, “urgently”, an “explanation of the reasons why said UCI has not been put into operation”.
They have also urged to take “the pertinent measures immediately to reverse this situation and to be able to offer quality care to patients and guarantee the minimum exposure of workers.
The Independent Trade Union Center and Civil Servants (CSIF) has been asking for the opening of tower 4 of the Infanta Sofía Hospital for more than two years, “to avoid the collapse of the emergency room of this center, especially in the peaks with the highest incidence of influenza“, which is now” more urgent “.
