Inez Weski’s Pre-Trial Detention Extension: Implications for the Marengo Trial

Today it becomes clear whether the Public Prosecution Service (OM) wants to keep Inez Weski in jail longer. If so, the lawyer must be brought before the examining magistrate. Her pre-trial detention can be extended by a maximum of fourteen days.

The 68-year-old Weski assists main suspect Ridouan Taghi in the Marengo liquidation process. The lawyer was arrested Friday.

She is suspected of participation in a criminal organization and violation of secrets. Taghi may have been able to communicate with the outside world through Weski, while he was held in the highest security prison in the Netherlands. Weski’s office and home have been searched.

After her arrest, Tuesday’s hearing in the Marengo trial has been postponed. The court has decided this after a request from the lawyers who would speak.

The Marengo criminal trial is about several liquidations and attempts to do so. A life sentence has been demanded against Taghi. The verdict is scheduled for October 20, but the question is whether that will succeed.
