The Public Prosecution Service has proposed that Inez Weski become a key witness or “special informant with favors” after her arrest last April. The former lawyer said this in an interview with NRC on Friday. Weski was in pre-trial detention for several weeks last year. She calls the conversation with two prosecutors about possible agreements “the strangest” thing she experienced during her detention. She ended the conversation “after fifteen minutes”. The book that Weski wrote about her extraordinary fate since her arrest will be published on Friday, entitled The Sound of Silence.

The Public Prosecution Service suspects Weski (69) of participating in a criminal organization dedicated to international drug trafficking and money laundering, and of violating secrets. The ex-lawyer is said to have shared information from her client Ridouan Taghi from the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught with his contacts in the outside world.

Weski has not been a lawyer since July last year. Taghi, the main suspect in the extensive Marengo liquidation trial, was sentenced by the court to life in prison in February. His case is currently on appeal.

Quasibewijsmiddel

In the NRC interview, Weski is indignant about the Public Prosecution Service’s proposal. “I heard it. I thought: how dare one.” Weski is a declared opponent of the use of key witnesses. “A terminally toxic quasi-evidence,” she calls it.

The Public Prosecution Service does not want to respond substantively to Weski’s outbursts, because she is a suspect in an ongoing criminal investigation. “The Public Prosecution Service will not discuss her case and personal circumstances in the media,” a spokesperson said. “These will be discussed when the criminal case can be dealt with by the court. It is not yet known when that could be. The Public Prosecution Service wanted to submit the criminal file to the court last year. The defense has filed several formal proceedings.”
