Inez Weski, Lawyer of Ridouan Taghi, Released from Pre-Trial Detention

Inez Weski, formerly the lawyer Ridouan Taghi, is released. The court judges that there is no longer any reason to detain her any longer and lifts her pre-trial detention.

Weski had been detained since April 21. The Public Prosecution Service suspects her of participating in a criminal organization aimed at international drug trafficking and money laundering. As a result of that case, the Dean of the Rotterdam Bar Association has also suspended her as a lawyer, because the Dean believes she cannot perform her duties.

68-year-old Weski is suspected of sharing information from Taghi from the Extra Secure Institution in Vught with his contacts in the outside world, which would mean that she abused her position as a lawyer. She is not Taghi’s first lawyer who has been arrested: at the beginning of this year, Taghi’s former lawyer and cousin, Youssef T., was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for passing on messages.

Delay Marengo process

Since the counselor has been detained and suspended as a lawyer, Taghi has been in the Marengo trial without a defense. He is looking for another lawyer, but is conducting his own defense for now. A discussion with him and the court will follow on 19 June.

Weski’s son Guy, who is also a lawyer and assists suspects in the Marengo trial, said earlier that he expects the liquidation process to be greatly delayed, because the person who must succeed his mother must first read extensively. He calls the planned verdict in the case on October 20 “an illusion in advance”.
