INERATEC GmbH
Frankfurt (ots)
INERATEC is today officially breaking ground for the first large-scale industrial power-to-liquid (PtL) plant in Frankfurt together with Hesse’s Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir. From 2024, the plant will produce up to 2,500 tons of sustainable e-fuel annually and thus make an important contribution to achieving climate protection goals.
With the PtL system, liquid hydrocarbons, also known as e-fuels, are produced with the starting materials CO2 and green hydrogen. Industriepark Höchst offers optimal production conditions due to the existing infrastructure and the biogas plant that Infraserv Höchst operates on site. The demand for these climate-friendly synthetic fuels in shipping, aviation and the chemical industry is enormous. INERATEC’s goal is to be a pioneer in meeting this demand.
CEO Tim Böltken looks particularly at the global importance of the project: “As a company, we have recognized that the Power-to-X technologies must be used in global sweet spots that offer optimal conditions in the form of cheap renewable electricity. With our With modular and scalable technology, we can meet the requirements of these locations and offer tailor-made solutions to drive the decarbonization of industry and mobility. The pioneering plant in Frankfurt is a milestone in the development of sustainable e-fuel and an important step towards a climate-neutral future. ”
The pioneer plant is the first large-scale industrial PtL project in Germany. The system modules have been manufactured in Karlsruhe since the summer of 2022 and will be gradually integrated at the site over the following months, so that the commissioning process will begin by the end of the year. The planned start of production for the entire system is 2024.
Hesse’s Economics Minister, Tarek Al-Wazir, emphasizes the importance of the project for sustainable mobility in the state: “Hesse is becoming a pioneer in climate protection in air transport with the nation’s largest pilot plant for synthetic kerosene. The aim of the pilot plant is to produce synthetic kerosene on a much larger scale than before in order to gain experience for mass production. In the short term, CO2 emissions can be saved by admixture, and in the long term the possibility of making flying CO2-neutral can be created. But one thing is clear: In general, economical and efficient use of energy must come first and e-fuels will remain a rare commodity for a long time to come. They have to be used in a targeted manner where direct electrification is not possible, especially in the air or at sea.”
“Industrial Park Höchst has a long tradition of innovation, because the chemical industry has always played a pioneering role in the development of future technologies,” says Dr. Joachim Kreysing, Managing Director of Infraserv Höchst. With the Industriepark Höchst, the company operates one of the largest research and production sites for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Europe and is committed to the sustainable transformation of the industry. dr Joachim Kreysing: “We are delighted that INERATEC has chosen Industriepark Höchst as the location for the project, thereby expanding our innovation cluster.” Since Infraserv Höchst has been involved in the further development of hydrogen technology for many years and has a lot of experience, the conditions for the INERATEC project are ideal, especially since the new plant can be integrated into the production network.
INERATEC is investing over EUR 30 million in the construction of the facility, supported by the environmental innovation program. The funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection confirms the climate protection potential and the pioneering character of the project. Further systems are already being planned. INERATEC is thus establishing itself as one of the market leaders for e-fuels.
INERATEC
INERATEC is a pioneer in the field of power-to-liquid applications. The company supplies sustainable fuels and chemical products. In modular chemical plants for Power-to-X and Gas-to-Liquid applications, hydrogen from renewable electricity and greenhouse gases such as CO2 are used to produce e-kerosene, CO2-neutral gasoline, clean diesel or synthetic waxes, methanol or SNG. Founded in 2016, the company has already implemented large-scale power-to-liquid plants at German locations to increase the availability of sustainable fuels and chemicals in various transport sectors such as aviation. Industrial Park Höchst
Industriepark Höchst covers an area of 460 hectares and is home to around 90 companies from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, basic and specialty chemicals, crop protection, food additives and services sectors. Around 22,000 people work on the site in the west of Frankfurt am Main. The sum of investments since the year 2000 is more than 8 billion euros. As the operating company of the site, Infraserv Höchst provides the companies with services in the areas of energy, waste disposal, network operation, site services, occupational health and safety, environmental protection and facility management. The subsidiaries belonging to the Infraserv Höchst Group provide services in the areas of logistics, education and process technology.
Infraserv GmbH & Co. Höchst KG employs around 2,100 people and 200 trainees. The Infraserv Höchst Group has around 3,000 employees and 230 trainees. In 2022, Infraserv Höchst, including its subsidiaries Infraserv Logistics, Infraserv Höchst Process Technology, Provadis Partner for Education and Consulting and Thermal Conversion Compound, achieved sales of around 1.6 billion euros.
