Ineos Grenadiers picks up again in Romandie with prologue winner Ethan Hayter | Tour de Romandie 2022

Eleven Belgians started the 75th edition of the Tour de Romandie. Quinten Hermans (2nd in Liège-Bastogne-Liège) and Dylan Teuns (winner Walloon Arrow) had enough in the tank after the spring to continue for another week.

Teuns won the mutual duel with Hermans, but it was Laurens De Plus who would finish in 42nd place as best Belgian.

Yet there was also something to celebrate for De Plus, because his teammate Ethan Hayter was the first to dive under 6 minutes, something only Rohan Dennis would do.

For Hayter it is the second victory of the season, after a stage win in the Coppi e Bartali, and his first in the WorldTour. His teammate and defending champion Geraint Thomas parked his Pinarello in 4th place and is doing a good job in the standings.

That cannot be said of Sergio Higuita, the winner of the Tour of Catalonia. He paid a hefty price with 33 seconds. We also did not see the resurrection of Chris Froome in the prologue through Lausanne. The four-time Tour winner finished 119th out of 137 participants.
