Inegi pollster gives positive to COVID-19

The contagion was registered in Mexico City and, according to the Inegi, after confirming the positive diagnosis to COVID-19, all health protocols were followed to attend to the case.

According to the institute, from the planning it was contemplated that the census survey would end on March 27; previously, on March 19, the Inegi released a statement informing that the 2020 Census was not suspended, but that “extraordinary measures would be taken to reduce the risk of contagion”.

He assured that the measures taken corresponded to that established by the federal Ministry of Health, such that the interviewers were prohibited from having physical contact with the interviewees; that they had to keep a distance of one and a half meters from the person who answered the questionnaire; and that for no reason could enter the person’s address.

He also said that staff would be allocated additional resources to purchase prevention materials such as soap and antibacterial gel.

Among the measures announced, it was also highlighted that the interviewers who were among the groups vulnerable to COVID-19 would not carry out interviews in homes and would immediately withdraw to anyone presenting symptoms of respiratory infection.

He Inegi affirmed that, since it did not require a massive concentration of people, the domiciled interviews of the census were not considered risky activity by the health authorities.

Despite this, he said that the population would respond intensively by responding through the Internet site censo2020.mx or by telephone, “an initiative called” Think yourself “.

Despite these recommendations, on social networks and on the Institute’s own page there are complaints and claims from interviewers who assure that they had not been provided or covered their mouths.

“I am a basic questionnaire interviewer and they treat us badly, they have not paid us expenses for the field or per diem and they do not even give us a mask, they have very bad planning and unfortunately we visited interviewers from various censuses and they told me the same thing, that there are very bad strategic planning in the field (…) people do not want to open us because we do not bring face masks (they tell us) that we go home, that we leave everything, “says a testimony.
