INE will clarify alleged cancellation of applications to vote abroad

Mexico City. After various complaints have been spread on social networks from Mexicans living abroad who claim that they received emails in which the National Electoral Institute (INE) notified them, without further explanation, that their registration requests to vote on the day of June 2 were classified as inadmissible, the electoral body assured that it will address the doubts for their pertinent clarification.

However, he also reported that cases in which “inconsistencies” were detected in the applications and documentation presented were excluded from the Nominal List of Voters Resident Abroad (LNERE).

He explained that to give “certainty, solidity and reliability” to the LNERE, he carried out a “thorough” review of 42,436 registration requests, and as a consequence, “39,724 were determined to be inadmissible, equivalent to 0.04 percent of the National Nominal List”.

Thus, he indicated that the LNERE was made up of a total of 187,388 records.

The INE detailed that of the more than 39 thousand that dropped, 18,203 have to do with irregularities in the signature, such as they were illegible, photocopies instead of a handwritten signature or a lack of coincidence with that of the Voting Credential (CPV). .

In addition, 12,574 were excluded for non-compliance with the requirements, 8,086 for registrations with multiple irregularities and 861 for irregularities in the proof of address, whether alteration of data, which were apocryphal, repeated registrations with the same proof and that did not meet the required validity.

The INE also clarified that Mexican people whose registration was found to be inadmissible will be able to vote in national territory with a CPV processed in Mexico, or in the special polling stations that will be installed in the 23 consular offices with a credential processed in Mexico or abroad.
