INE received 1,519 complaints during the electoral process

Mexico City. Over the course of almost a year, during the electoral process, the Complaints and Reports Commission of the National Electoral Institute (INE) received 1,519 complaints, of which 914 were filed by political parties, 548 by citizens and 46 were initiated ex officio.

Councilor Claudia Zavala, president of this commission, reported that between September 8, 2023, and August 23, 2024, they held 97 sessions, of which 29 corresponded to September, October, November, and December 2023, and 68 were held from January to August 2024.

Of the total, four were ordinary, five extraordinary and 88 urgent extraordinary. Regarding Ordinary Sanctioning Procedures, 400 files were initiated, 205 at the request of the citizens and 195 ex officio, which were concentrated in 399 procedures, the main subject of 207 being the alleged improper affiliation with political parties.

In addition, 26 precautionary measures agreements were issued related to the possible violation of the principles of independence and impartiality in the integration or formation of the electoral bodies that participated in the federal and local electoral processes 2023-2024, resulting in the approval of more than 1,600 people aspiring to the position of electoral supervisors and trainers.

The requests for precautionary measures were handled in 807 cases by the Technical Unit for Electoral Disputes (UTCE) and in 484 cases by agreement of the Commission, in 142 the admissibility of the precautionary measure was determined and in 259 its inadmissibility, of which 133 were challenged; 83 were confirmed, 34 were rejected and 16 were revoked by the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF, thus keeping 96 percent of the total agreements issued by the Commission firm.

Regarding Political Violence Against Women Based on Gender (VPMRG), 213 complaints were received, of which 96 were found to be incompetent on the part of the INE.

In this regard, the three issues with the highest number of complaints were: Attacks on social networks with 90 complaints, attacks in the media with 37 and obstruction of candidacy for public office with 20.
