Mexico City. The Complaints and Reports Commission of the National Electoral Institute ordered Movimiento Ciudadano to withdraw advertisements broadcast on television and social networks for alluding, one of these, to the crime of injury, attributed to the PRI and people who are part of that party, and others to kidnapping, threats and damage to other people’s property, also attributed to PRI members.
However, the removal of another MC advertisement in which it is stated that the virtual mayor of Monterrey, Nuevo León, committed electoral crimes was not ordered; in this last case, this INE Commission considered that in a preliminary manner, these are phrases protected by freedom of expression and are part of the public debate.
In another matter, but also related to this dispute, the PAN filed complaints against the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, and the former presidential candidate of the Emec party, Jorge Alvarez Máynez, for violating electoral principles in various social media publications.
The Commission decided not to grant the precautionary measures because the electronic links are no longer visible, that is, they are faits accomplis and irreparable.
Regarding the use of public resources, the Commission recalled that the in-depth study is the responsibility of the Specialized Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation.
