Ine (64) from Ospel, who was killed by a medical miss of the Sint Jans Gasthuis in Weert got incurable liver cancer, still appeals in the case of the compensation of € 125,000 that the judge awarded her last year.
Liver cancer due to medical error
The 64-year-old from Ospel had demanded € 275,000. Although she thought the amount awarded last year was too low, she said she would not appeal because it would cause her too much stress. Together with her lawyer and her daughter, she has now lodged an appeal. The, according to her, the businesslike and lack of empathy of the Sint Jans Gasthuis in the whole case, played a role for her to reconsider her decision.
To wake
But above all she wants to warn and wake up others with the publicity that the profession is expected to generate. “To be clear, it’s not about the money for me. That’s fun for the children and grandchildren, it’s no use to me anymore. I especially want to make people aware that they should not take everything a doctor says for sweet cake. Be empowered. Mistakes are also made in the hospital. Be alert, stand up for yourself and don’t say ‘yes mister doctor, no mister doctor’.”
