Indy 500: Marco Andretti takes pole police, ‘Veekay’ Rinus van Kalmthout fourth

Marco Andretti just took pole position for the Indy 500 at next week’s Indianapolis Speedway. Andretti did that 33 years after his grandfather managed to do that too.

Dutchman Rinus van Kalmthout, known to the Americans as “Veekay”, was able to qualify fourth for the famous race. The 500 miles will be run next Sunday at the Indianapolis Speedway.

Rookie among the experienced guys

As a ‘rookie’, nineteen-year-old Hoofdorper Van Kalmthout may start in his debut from the second row. He has experienced Indycar racers in the front row for him.

Andretti took pole for Andretti Autosport, averaging 231.068 miles per hour over his flying laps. That is an average speed of 371.87 kilometers per hour. ‘VeeKay’ averaged 230,704 miles per hour.

Fernando Alonso did not get past 26th fastest yesterday in qualifying for the Indy 500. Earlier this week he explored the wall in a serious crash.
