Industry Shorts: BBC Secures WRC Rights, Chelsea Women’s Maternity Policy & Netflix Darts Special

BBC Secures WRC Rights and Marks Rally Scotland Return
The newly announced broadcast package includes five live stages and the power stage from every rally, alongside 14 one-hour highlights programmes per season and digital clips distributed across BBC platforms. This multi-year arrangement expands the championship’s domestic visibility. A core element of the 2027 calendar is the inclusion of Rally Scotland, which will receive four days of extensive live coverage and marks the first WRC round staged in the UK since 2019.
According to Motorsport UK Chief Executive Hugh Chambers, the partnership establishes a national platform to engage long-standing supporters and attract new audiences. The agreement coincides with strong British participation in the discipline. Welsh driver Elfyn Evans leads the 2026 standings with one round remaining, having finished as championship runner-up five times across the previous six seasons. The final round of the 2026 campaign, Rally Italia Sardegna, is scheduled for October 1-4.
Navigating large-scale motorsport logistics and regional event infrastructure requires specialized coordination.
Chelsea FC Women Expands Maternity and Family Care Policy
Chelsea FC Women has introduced an enhanced maternity policy as part of a broader family-friendly player care framework covering pregnancy, parenthood, adoption, and fertility. The initiative provides individualized support throughout pregnancy and dedicated medical care during a player’s return to professional football, aiming to increase financial security while balancing elite athletic careers with parenthood.
Under the updated framework, players gain access to private scans, delivery options, and postpartum support addressing physical, mental, and emotional health. The club also funds travel expenses for a partner or nanny to accompany players to away fixtures for up to one year following their return to action. Additional provisions include enhanced adoption and parental leave policies, alongside childcare cost contributions during rehabilitation and training.
This structure builds upon Chelsea Women’s partnership with Fertility Plus, which features a Player Value in Kind Fund providing financial assistance for players exploring family-building options. Aki Mandhar, Chief Executive Officer of Chelsea FC Women, stated that the policy ensures players receive necessary support and security throughout their individual journeys. Sporting Director Phil Radley added that the investment aligns with the organization’s goal to build a leading women’s sports environment where athletes can thrive professionally and personally.
The policy coincides with the club’s broader infrastructure investments, including the transition to stage all Women’s Super League matches at Stamford Bridge.
