Industrialists ask to remove blockades on the Veracruz-CDMX railway route

The Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) requested the intervention of the authorities to restore rail traffic on the Veracruz-Mexico City route, since the blockades maintained by community members affect the transfer of goods and supplies.

The agency indicated that since September 24, residents of the Puente Colorado Chapulco community have kept the train track blocked due to a demand for access to water.

The industrial sector requested “the urgent intervention of the corresponding authorities to allow the

restoration”, because although the railway industry has met the demands so that the train can pass, several of the projects already “exceed the possibilities of a private company”, since they are the responsibility of the State.

He commented that this blockade already affects the operation of the Salamanca and Tula refineries, with the shortage of fuel oil and the import of refined products; the steelmaker, by preventing the supply of raw materials for the operation of the plants, as well as the plastic, automotive, auto parts and cement industries, among others.

He pointed out that the chlorine shortage for Mexico City is critical, while there is also an impact on rail traffic of containerized general cargo that arrives at the port of Veracruz, which occurs during the high season of end-of-year inventories.
