“Indra Sjafri appointed as coach for U-23 Indonesian national team at 2022 Asian Games”

A new task awaits Indra Sjafri after helping the U-22 Indonesian national team win a gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games. He was appointed coach of the Red and White squad at the 2022 Asian Games which will be held this year.

In fact, the Asian Games were held last year. However, due to the high level of the corona virus pandemic in Hangzhou, China, the event was moved to this year.

At the 2022 Asian Games, Indra will hold the U-23 Indonesian national team. It is hoped that he will be able to bring his team to perform optimally in the event.

Most likely the players that Indra will bring to the 2022 Asian Games will come from the 2023 SEA Games squad. The event will take place from September 23 to October 8.

“I want to give coach Indra and also the SEA Games players the opportunity to participate in the Asian Games,” said PSSI chairman Erick Thohir at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Friday (19/5).

Erick explained Shin Tae-yong was given another task. The formation manager from South Korea is entrusted with holding the Indonesian national team for the 2026 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifications.

“There are world championship qualifiers for 2026 which start in October and November, then we want a three-week training camp starting December 20 for the Asian Cup. So, thank God, I have two great coaches,” he said.

“We share the task, coach Shin Tae-yong will do that [kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2026 dan Piala Asia 2023]the only coach Indra [Asian Games 2022],” he added.

In addition, Erick stated that he had communicated with Indra and Tae-yong. He made sure the two people were ready to accept the task he was given.

“I have spoken to them from heart to heart, yes, we have to be compact, we have to be united, we don’t let our national team be praised for flying, we will be criticized later, we have to take care of that, so we really have to prepare,” he said .
