Indosat Ooredoo Launches 5G with Cisco SRv6 Support

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Indosat Ooredoo has launched service 5Gin Indonesia on June 22, 2021. 5G services in five Indonesian cities are supported by the first commercial implementation of Segment Routing on IPv6 (SRv6).

SRv6 used Indosat Ooredoo is the first commercial implementation in Southeast Asia to support the development of 5G services in Indonesia.

In applying this technology, Indosat Ooredoo partner with Cisco. Together, the two transform their own Transport infrastructure into a state-of-the-art, programmable 5G transport network powered by IPv6 Segment Routing (SRv6) technology.

One of the advantages of this technology is the ability to Network Slicing. Network slicing enable network 5G simpler, scalable, agile with high reliability to meet the needs of retail customers and business segments.

Chief Technology and Information Officer Indosat Ooredoo, Medhat Elhusseiny, said that the application of SSRv6 technology on Indosat’s 5G network is intended to answer the needs of consumers and corporate segment customers for on-demand and scalable networks.

“This is a big step in building a network transport next-generation programmable, future-ready, scalable, and able to operate automatically with Software Defined Network (SDN) support and intelligent routing function SRv6,” said Medhat, at the Indosat Ooredoo press conference which was held online, Monday (28/6/2021).
