Jakarta –
Two different results were picked by Indonesia in doubles BWF World Championship 2023. Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana qualify for the last 16, medium Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto was eliminated.
Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana faced Bjarne Geiss/Jan Colin Voelker at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Wednesday (23/8/2023) evening WIB. The Indonesian doubles, seeded 13th, won in straight games 21-12, 21-16.
Geiss/Colin stuck to Fikri/Bagas’ points in the first game by 10-10. Five consecutive points from Fikri/Bagas opened the gap to the German double, which they maintained until they won the game 21-12.
The second game runs tighter. Fikri/Bagas got away 13-9, but Geiss/Colin chased it down to only one point at 16-17.
However, Fikri/Bagas kept their composure and secured a ticket to the last 16 after winning four consecutive points. Furthermore, Fikri / Bagas are waiting for the fifth seeded Japanese double, Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi.
The first seeded doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto experienced a different fate. Fajar/Rian were eliminated in the round of 32 after losing 18-21 and 19-21 to the doubles pair of Taipei Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan.
This defeat marked the continuation of Fajar/Rian’s championship drought. After winning the All England title last March, the world number one pair have yet to win another title.
