The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is delaying the decision of which political party to forge an alliance with until after party matriarch Megawati Soekarnoputri names its presidential candidate for the 2024 election. This move could potentially lead to the creation of another bloc in the country’s politics. Other major pro-government parties have announced plans to build a grand coalition for the election, but the PDI-P’s decision remains a mystery. PDI-P secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto stated that any cooperation between the PDI-P and other parties would only be carried out after the announcement of the presidential candidate by Megawati. The PDI-P is currently Indonesia’s ruling party.
Indonesia’s ruling PDI-P party will determine its election alliance after Megawati Soekarnoputri names their presidential candidate. Other parties plan a grand coalition for the 2024 election.
