Indonesia’s Ranking in Asian Games 2023 Medal Standings and Dragon Boat Gold

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, which was attended by the Indonesian contingent, has been going on for two weeks and only a small number of matches remain before it closes on Sunday, October 8.

Approaching the end of this multicabag championship, Indonesia is still far from the target. On Friday, October 7 2023, the Red and White Team received a gold piece, a silver piece and a bronze. Unfortunately, the additional medals were not enough to improve Indonesia’s ranking in the standings medals for the 2023 Asian Games.

Indonesia’s position in the medal standings from Friday to Friday night was 13th, which did not change from the day before. The Red and White contingent has now collected 7 gold, 11 silver and 18 bronze.

In terms of ranking, Indonesia’s position is not yet secure in reaching the target of ranking 12th and is still far from the target of winning 12 gold medals previously announced by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Among Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia’s position is one level better than neighboring Malaysia, which is ranked 14th with 5 gold, 7 silver and 18 bronze medals. However, Indonesia is far behind Thailand, which is ranked 8th with 10 gold, 14 silver and 30 bronze.

The host team China has long ensured that their top position will not be shaken by scooping 187 gold, 104 silver and 63 bronze, followed by Japan with 47 gold, 57 silver and 65 bronze, and South Korea with 36 gold, 49 silver. , and 84 bronze.

Dragon boat gold

The only gold medal for the Red and White contingent today was presented by the men’s 1000m dragon boat team by beating the host team China in a match at the Wenzhou Dragon Boat Center arena.

Andri Agus Mulyana and friends cleverly held back before attacking in the final stages and finished the race with a time of 4:31.135.

After starting to cross the 250m point, Indonesia was left behind in fifth place before improving their position by advancing to second place, trailing China who led half way.

In the last 500m, Indonesia slowly but surely caught up with the home team who led the race from the start to the last stroke of the Indonesian rowers, bringing their dragon boats into a fast race and crossing the finish line 0.047 seconds earlier than China.

The home team had to admit defeat by a very narrow margin to be satisfied with the silver medal, while Myanmar was entitled to bronze in third place.

“The strategy in the race, we don’t want to be provoked at the start because our enemy China is of course very strong. They tried to test us, but we remained calm,” said Andri.

Apart from gold, the Indonesian team won the silver medal in the women’s 1000m dragon boat after Raudani Fitra and friends finished the race with a time of 4:55.400, behind the Chinese team who was dominant from the start.

While the home team was building distance from its rivals, the Indonesian women’s team was trying to maintain its position in second place following attacks from South Korea and North Korea after halfway.

Even though they had given all their strength, the Indonesian women’s team had to watch the Chinese team win the gold medal after finishing 3.937 seconds ahead of them. Indonesia had to settle for a silver medal and South Korea won bronze after finishing 0.283 seconds behind the Red and White team’s boat.

The gold medal was the highest achievement for the Indonesian dragon boat team at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou after all competition events had been completed.

Previously on Wednesday (4 October), Indonesia secured one silver medal in the women’s 200m and one bronze in the men’s 200m and then on Thursday (5 October) Indonesia took home two silver medals in the men’s and women’s 500m.
