The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed that processed nickel ore is one of the top five commodities exported to China. Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said this was thanks to the downstream policy or the construction of smelters in Indonesia.
Indonesia itself has also banned the export of raw nickel in 2020. This policy was implemented to encourage Indonesia to export processed nickel products.
“This is of course in line with the downstream policy and construction of a nickel ore processing smelter, which from 2022 to August 2023, nickel commodities and nickel goods on HS 75 will be included in the top five commodities exported to China,” he said at a press conference on the Development of Indonesian Exports and Imports. August 2023, last Friday (15/9/2023).
Apart from that, exports of HS 72 iron and steel also dominate the commodities exported to China. Meanwhile the proportion of ore, metal, silver and ash decreased, no longer even being in the top five.
Amalia also explained that non-oil and gas exports to China in August 2023 amounted to US$ 5.38 billion with a share of 25.99% of total non-oil and gas exports in August 2023. This contribution was mainly driven by iron and steel commodities or HS 72 and mineral fuels. HS 27.
In his presentation, cumulatively from January to August 2023 non-oil and gas exports to China became 24.96%. This figure increased from the same period last year of 21.26%. Non-oil and gas exports to China reached US$ 24.96 billion in value.
Non-oil and gas exports to the United States (US) in August 2023 amounted to US$ 2.13 billion with a share of 10.29%. The main non-oil and gas export commodities to the US market are clothing and accessories, especially knitwear in the HS 61 group and electrical equipment machines and their parts which are included in the HS 85 group.
“Judging from the proportion of the top 5 structures of Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports to the United States, the composition will also change in the period 2022 to August 2023. Machinery and electrical equipment and their parts are included in the top 5 main non-oil and gas commodities exported by Indonesia to the United States market,” he concluded.
