Indonesia’s palm oil exports to China and Bangladesh rose sharply in February, according to the Indonesian Palm Oil Association, however overall export volume decreased.

Indonesia’s palm oil exports to China and Bangladesh experienced a huge jump in February, according to the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki). Palm oil exports to China increased 55% from 522,900 tonnes in January to 809,500 tonnes the following month. The country also shipped 154,000 tonnes to Bangladesh in February, a 289% jump from the beginning of the year. The figures made China and Bangladesh the top two export destinations for Indonesian palm oil that booked the highest increase in volume in February. This contributed to Indonesia’s overall palm oil export total of 5.86 million tonnes in January and February, bringing the industry’s contribution to around $5.29bn. GAPKI chairman Eddy Martono also revealed the industry is seeing an increase in palm oil exports to the Netherlands but exports to the US fell from 207,400 tonnes at the start of the year to 127,700 tonnes in February.
