Indonesia’s new capital city in Kalimantan isn’t likely to decrease the supply of workers to Malaysia, according to Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.

The construction of Indonesia’s new capital city in Kalimantan is unlikely to reduce the supply of workers to Malaysia, according to Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof. Fadillah stated in an interview with Malaysiakini that Indonesia is a large country with a large pool of workers, and not all of them will have the same opportunities in Kalimantan. He also noted that many people from Kalimantan are still going to Sarawak and Sabah in Malaysia to work. Fadillah said that Indonesians are still expected to fill vacancies in the plantation sector, which needed 120,000 workers after Covid-19 measures were lifted on Aug 1, 2020.
