Indonesia’s Men’s Doubles Race Against Time to Reach 2023 World Championships

Jakarta

Indonesia’s men’s doubles are in a race against time to reach the 2023 World Championships. They only have 10 days to make amends after failing in Australia Open 2023.

In Kangaroo Country, Pelatnas PBSI sent four representatives in men’s doubles. They are Dawn Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Henry Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Martinand Pramudya Kusumawardana/Jeremiah Rambitan.

Of the four, Fajar/Rian and Pram/Yere were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, The Daddies and Leo/Daniel only reached the round of 16.

This result is certainly beyond expectations considering that Indonesia’s men’s doubles are a sector of hope. Three of them are leading players, even world number one.

Herry Iman Pierngadi said that Fajar/Rian’s results were beyond expectations. Meanwhile, Pram/Yere and Leo/Daniel are still considered inconsistent. Including Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri who did not escape the record even though they decided to withdraw from the Australian Open due to injury.

“After appearing at the Australian Open, going forward from a physical perspective, Fajar/Rian’s speed must be increased. Meanwhile, from a technical point of view, there should be more variety in the opening. Don’t be monotonous,” said Herry in a written statement.

“Meanwhile, for the three pairs, it takes time. It needs a process so they can enter the ranks of the world’s men’s doubles elite. Everything cannot be instantaneous. We must continue to strive to hone their skills to enter the world’s elite ranks,” he said.

Indonesia’s men’s doubles are obliged to improve. In addition to the ongoing calculation of the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, there is also another important event in sight, namely the 2023 Badminton World Championships.

The Grade 1 badminton tournament will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from August 21-27. Of course there is not much time left for preparation.

According to BWF, there were four Indonesian representatives who qualified for the World Championships, as of August 4. They are Fajar/Rian, Hendra/Ahsan, Leo/Daniel, and Bagas/Fikri.

“Indeed, the preparation is not long, maybe around 10 days. We are racing against time. After Australia, we will prepare the players to face it,” said Herry.

The last Indonesian men’s doubles won the title at the World Championships in 2019 through Hendra/Ahsan. After that, the Red and White team without a title. In 2022, Indonesia will only get silver medals (Hendra/Ahsan) and bronze medals through Fajar/Rian.

“Hopefully the preparations go smoothly, and the results will also be good,” Herry hoped.
