Indonesia’s Fast Train Named Whoosh: Minister Ranks It Higher Than Japanese and French Trains

Jakarta

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi compared the name Whoosh to Fast Car Jakarta-Bandung with the names of Japanese and French fast trains.

According to Budi Karya, the name Whoosh for Indonesia’s fast train is better than Japan’s Shinkansen fast train and France’s Train à Grande Vitesse (TGV).

“If you want to be a little proud of the Shinkansen or TGV, this is better. That’s okay. We need to be proud of what we do,” said Budi at a press conference for Candidates for the Name and Logo of the Indonesian Fast Train, Thursday (21/9/2023).

Budi admitted that he was shocked when he found out that Whoosh was the name of the Fast Train.

“I myself was surprised to get the word whoosh, what a surprise application. I was half surprised, how come it’s so good,” he explained.

As for the origin of the name ‘Whoosh’, Budi said it came from conversations between officials and people’s expressions of joy after taking part in the trial.

According to him, when trying out this mode of transportation, the expression of joy after experiencing the fast train was the word ‘whoosh’.

Well, then this word was also discussed with BUMN Minister Erick Thohir, Minister of State Secretariat Pratikno, and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

“The originator, so, in the last 3 weeks we had a dialogue between Mr. President, Mr. Pratik, Mr. Erick, me, Mr. Triawan and friends, Japri-Japrian, discussions like that. And at the same time we also tried it with Mr. Luhut “Mr. Edo, so it’s really said, ‘Who are we? Jaya. Well, if that’s an expression of joy there, it’s like saying ‘whoosh whoosh’,” he said.
