Indonesian Citizen Kidnapped in Malaysia While on Holiday

Penang state police chief Khaw Kok Chin said the victim, who was from Medan, was kidnapped by three men while he was in the state on holiday with three female friends. The 36-year-old victim was abducted in Paya Terubong, before being taken to Butterworth, where he was locked up.

The victim’s three friends were kidnapped along with the woman. However, Khaw said the victim’s three friends were later released unharmed by the kidnappers.

Confined for 10 Days in 3 Different Places

After being kidnapped, the victim was then locked up for a total of 10 days in three different locations. First the victim was confined for 3 days in Butterworth, then 4 days in Puchong, and 3 days in Shah Alam.

“The suspects locked up the victim in several locations, making it difficult for the police to track him,” said Penang state police chief, Khaw Kok Chin, quoted by the New Straits Times media, Saturday (23/9/2023).

“During the rescue operation, police also discovered a 27-year-old foreign man who was kidnapped for an unrelated case,” he said at a press conference.

Successfully survived after husband reported to the police

The victim was finally rescued from a house in Shah Alam, after her husband made a report to the police. The victim was found safe.

Penang state police chief Khaw Kok Chin said the victim was abducted on September 7, but her 47-year-old husband only reported it on September 15.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur received a report of the kidnapping and torture of an Indonesian citizen with the initials F on September 14 2023. The report was then forwarded to the PDRM (Malaysian Police).

“On September 14 2023, the Indonesian Embassy in KL received a complaint about the kidnapping and torture of an Indonesian citizen with the initials F. The Indonesian Embassy immediately investigated the report, followed by reporting it to the PDRM (Malaysian Police),” said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, to journalists, Sunday (24/9/2023).
