Indonesian VP hopes this year’s Eid al-Fitr exodus will boost regional economies as returning residents spend money there.

The Vice President of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, has expressed optimism that the upcoming Eid al-Fitr exodus will boost the economy in various regions of the country. The exodus, which sees residents return to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday with their families, is expected to involve around 130 million people this year. Amin believes that this will result in increased spending and help to drive economic performance in local areas. The country’s Transportation Ministry has estimated that at least 123.8 million people will return to their hometowns during the exodus this year, marking an increase from 85 million in 2022. Most of these individuals are expected to use land transportation, with private cars and motorcycles being the most popular modes of travel. Amin has urged people to make the most of the holiday and enjoy time with their families.
