Indonesian volcano erupts and forces more than 2,700 people to evacuate – News

The volcano launched a column of smoke and thick dark ash 4,000 meters high, which moved east and west of the volcano, where authorities established a four-kilometer safety radius around the crater, according to the disaster prevention agency. , BNPB.

The authorities, who raised the area’s alert to level 3 on a scale of 4, recommended the use of masks and other tools to protect the eyes and skin and thus lessen the impact of ash on health.

The disaster prevention agency adds in a statement that there are no reports of any victims of the volcano eruption, located some 2,600 kilometers east of Jakarta, and estimated that 2,782 have been evacuated from around 30 cities.

Indonesia has more than 400 volcanoes on about 17,000 islands, of which 129 are active and, of those 65 are classified as dangerous.

The Indonesian archipelago is located within the so-called “Circle of Fire” of the Pacific, an area of ​​great seismic and volcanic activity and which is shaken by about 7,000 earthquakes a year, most of them of low magnitude.
