Indonesian U-23 National Team Withdraws from the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup, Perindo Youth Leader: PSSI is Unprofessional! : Okezone Ball

JAKARTA – Perindo Youth Chairman, Effendy Syahputra, participated in responding to his resignation Indonesian National Team U-23 from 2022 AFF U-23 Cup. Disappointed, Effendy criticized PSSI’s unprofessional policy in managing the U-23 Indonesian National Team.

As is known, the U-23 Indonesian National Team withdrew from the U-23 AFF Cup due to the Covid-19 storm. However, the reason for the Covid-19 storm was considered irrelevant by Effendy.

According to Effendy, the reason for the Covid-19 storm as the cause of the resignation of the Indonesian national team does not make sense, considering that League 1 and League 3 are still running in the midst of a pandemic. Therefore, Effendy considers PSSI not serious in managing the U-23 Indonesian National Team.

“I don’t think the Covid issue can be used as an excuse for Indonesia’s cancellation of the U-23 AFF event, because after all, the status of Liga 1 also continues in the midst of the Omicron outbreak, as well as League 3,” said Effendy, Wednesday (16/2/2022) .

“So, this should not be used as an excuse if it is addressed with a professionalism in managing the national team,” he explained.

Effendy admitted that he was confused as to why Shin Tae-yong did not field second-tier players in the U-23 AFF Cup instead of resigning. Calling players who do not have enough flying hours at the international level is considered wiser than resigning.

What’s more, the U-23 AFF Cup can be used as a momentum to prepare for this year’s SEA Games. Effendy considers calling for players who are not affected by Covid-19 to be wiser than resigning.

“I think for a country like Indonesia with so many human resources, so many players, so many competing teams, the reason for this Covid is beyond our comprehension,” he explained.

Indonesian U-23 National Team Players

“National team management must have a plan B, if a lot of the core players get Covid, there should be a plan B, namely second-tier players, it’s easy to build a second-tier team, just call players in League 1 and League 3,” he said.

Therefore, Effendy considered that PSSI was not serious in recruiting talented young Indonesian players. He also hopes that in the future PSSI will be more professional in responding to this phenomenon if it happens again in the future.

“So this is a form of non-seriousness from the federation to recruit other players who are not caught by Omicron, who are playing in Liga 1 to play in the U-23 national team,” he said.
