The Indonesian government is urging citizens to use public transportation instead of private vehicles during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday, which is expected to see 123.8 million travelers. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, cited the benefits of trains and planes in terms of comfort, on-time delivery, and competitive prices compared to the cost of private vehicles. He also recommended purchasing ferry crossing tickets online to avoid congestion issues at ports like Bakauheni and Merak. The police’s Traffic Corps will conduct random checks to ensure travelers have ferry tickets in hand before arriving at Merak Port. The government will also segregate private vehicles, logistics trucks, and passenger buses to reduce congestion issues at ports. Thohir will monitor transport services during the holiday period to anticipate traffic congestion risks on major roads.
