Indonesian players and officials cannot salute the flag while on the championship podium Thomas Cup 2020 (2021) and chose to hold his chest while singing the anthem Indonesia Raya.
Indonesian players did not respect because there was no Red and White flag that was flown when Indonesia won the Thomas Cup, Sunday (17/10).
The celebration of the 2020 Thomas Cup champion at Ceres Arena felt very different because the Indonesian contingent could not fly the Red and White flag which had to be replaced with the flag of the All-Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
Indonesia is prohibited from using the red and white flag because it was punished by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for not complying with the doping test program.
The ban on raising the state flag is one of the sanctions for ignoring the WADA program.
However, the national anthem of Indonesia Raya can still be heard in the Indonesian celebration of the Thomas Cup.
However, because no Red and White flag was flown, the Indonesian players did not salute the flag as usual and they only held their chests while singing the Indonesia Raya anthem.
Indonesia is confirmed to be the champion of the Thomas Cup and won the gold medal after defeating China in the final which was held at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Denmark, Sunday (17/10) night WIB.
Indonesia opened victory over China through the men’s singles, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who beat Lu Guang Zu with a score of 18-21, 21-14, and 21-16.
Indonesia won its second victory through the men’s doubles of Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. Fajar/Rian successfully beat the Chinese pair with two straight games 21-12 and 21-19.
The Indonesian contingent finally managed to secure a 3-0 victory over China and won the 2020 Thomas Cup (Thomas Cup 2021) through Jonatan Christie’s success in defeating Li Shi Feng with a score of 21-14, 18-21, 21-14.
