Indonesian Parliament approves Penal Code banning sex outside marriage, Dec 6, 2022 – Dec 6, 2022

On Tuesday, December 6, the Indonesian parliament approved a penal code banning sex outside marriage. Speaking of which in shape Reuters agency.

Extramarital sex will be punished with up to one year’s imprisonment. The controversial new laws will apply to both Indonesians and foreigners. The penal code also includes a ban on insulting the president, state institutions and expressing opinions contrary to state ideology.

MPs, according to a Reuters publication, welcome the adoption of the new penal code. It has been discussed in Indonesia since independence from the Netherlands.

“The old code belongs to Dutch heritage… It is no longer relevant now,” said Bambang Wurianto, head of the parliamentary committee responsible for reviewing the code.
