Indonesian Neurologist Dr. Andreas Harry SpS (K) Attends International Alzheimer’s Disease Conference in Amsterdam

One of the Indonesian neurologists, namely Dr. Andreas Harry SpS (K) was invited again to attend an international conference on Alzheimer’s disease in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, after two years the annual activity could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This conference was attended by thousands of participants, both world researchers and medical clinicians from all over the world and takes place every year alternately in Europe and the United States,” he said when contacting ANTARA from Amsterdam, Tuesday (18/7) evening.

Next year, the conference will be held in Philadelphia, United States from July 29 to August 1, 2024.

He explained that the annual conference organized by The Alzheimer`s Association International Conference (AAIC) in 2023 will be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from Saturday (15/7) to Thursday (20/7).

The main topic discussed at the conference, he said, was related to immunotherapy.

“Researchers continue to look for the best treatment and therapy for Alzheimer’s by binding, destroying and stopping the beta amyloid gene protein products 40 and 42 in the brain as a progressive cause of dementia and in a short time causes death,” said a neurologist graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University (Unair). Surabaya, East Java.

In fact, he said, beta amyloid 56 has now been found which is more “toxic”.

Regarding the discussion regarding neuropathology as a cause of memory decline, he said, it still revolves around the “amyloid cascade” hypothesis in familial Alzheimer’s (10 percent prevalence).

Whereas in “sporadic alzheimer’s” (90 percent prevalence) with the “mitochondria cascade” hypothesis.

Another main topic discussed on Tuesday (18/7) tonight, he said, was related to “biomarker tests”.
