Who would have thought, the story of the online chess battle on Chess.com between Dadang Subur alias Dewa Kipas and Levy Rozman aka GothamChess, turned out to be viral and controversial.
This incident also adds to the long list of behavior of Indonesian netizens reacting to an issue in cyberspace. Collected detikINET, Sunday (14/3/2021), let’s remember again the series of events.
1. Dadang Subur aka Dewa Kipas was accused of cheating
The story of Dadang Subur, a man from Bandung with the Dewa Kipas account on Chess.com, first went viral from his son Ali Akbar’s complaint. Ali told of the incident when his father defeated the world chess master and famous Youtuber, Levy Rozman aka GothamChess on March 2, 2021.
The Fan God has been accused of cheating by GothamChess fans. In the aftermath, the Fan God account was frozen. This story is touching Indonesian netizens, they both protested about freezing the Fan God account and raided GothamChess.
2. The figure of Dadang Subur
Is it true that the Fan God is cheating? Ali Akbar’s son denied emphatically. Apparently no one knows the background of Dadang Subur alias Dewa Kipas. He’s not just a housing old bapack.
In fact, Dadang Subur is a professional player who used to participate in tournaments. He also had become a member of Percasi and won many tournaments. One of them was ranked first in the 37th Chess Championship in Singkawang in 2005
Dadang Subur made his chess debut when he was still in college and joined many chess clubs. Then he decided to retire after moving to Jakarta in 2011. The ELO rating of 2,300 obtained by Dadang Subur, according to Ali, was purely the result of his clever work playing chess at chess.com. He has played 332 matches. He is not just anyone.
3. Fertile Brothers make peace with GothamChess
On Thursday, March 4, 2021, Ali Akbar said his father Dadan Subur had made peace with GothamChess. Indonesian netizens are asked to be calm and not to carry out personal attacks on Levy.
Dadan, represented by Ali Akbar, has communicated with Levy. Both parties agreed to mutually delete posts on social media that triggered the actions of Indonesian netizens.
