Indonesian Navy Ensures Safety of Crew Members After Warship Fire

Indonesian Navy ensure that all crew members of the Indonesian Warship (KRI) Teluk Hading 538 are safe from the fire.

Head of the Information Service for the Indonesian Navy, First Admiral Made Wira Hady, said that a total of 117 crew members (ABK) when the KRI Teluk Hading 538 caught fire in the waters of the Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi.

“The condition of the crew members is safe. The total number of personnel is 117. All of them are safe, thank God,” Made said to CNNIndonesia.comSaturday (3/6).

Made said the cause of the burning of the warship was suspected to be from the engine room. However, they are still investigating the cause of the fire.

“(The cause) of the temporary engine room,” he said.

When the KRI Teluk Hading 538 belonging to the Indonesian Navy caught fire, he said, other elements of the warship were in the same location.

Made said currently KRI Teluk Hading 538 was in the process of being towed to land.

“Incidentally there are also elements of other warships. Not alone. Now the process will be pulled to the nearest land,” said Made.

KRI Teluk Hading 538 belonging to the Indonesian Navy was reported to have caught fire between the Bira Waters, Bulukumba (Sulsel) and the Selayar Islands waters, Bulukumba, South Sulawesi on Saturday (3/6).

Selayar Basarnas Post Commander Andi Raswan Andi Raswan admitted that he had received a report since 14.00 WITA.

“Some say between Bira and Selayar (KRI Teluk Gading 538 fire point),” said Andi, Saturday (3/6).

Basarnas Bantaeng Hamka also visited the location. He said the ship’s position was around 8-9 nautical miles (NM) from the Port of Bira. At least 3 members of Basarnas Bantaeng were deployed to the location.
