Coach Burundi Etienne Ndayirajije said Indonesian National team play more attractively when he meets his team on the FIFA Matchday March 2023.
Burundi lost 1-3 to Indonesia in the March 2023 edition of the FIFA Matchday match at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, Saturday (25/3). The three goals scored by the Garuda squad, Yakob Sayuri, Dendy Sulistyawan and Rizky Ridho in the first half, were only able to be answered by Pacifique Niyongabire’s goal in the second half.
According to Etienne, conceding three times in the first round was the result of the Indonesian National Team’s performance which was more dynamic in constructing attacks.
“I see Indonesian players appear more attractive than us,” said Etienne.
Etienne also reasoned that the wet field conditions also influenced his team’s strategy. He said the rain that fell before the match was enough to hinder the flow of the ball.
“The weather does change, but what affects our game is the pitch. I see some inaccurate passes, maybe because of the pitch. It doesn’t only affect us but also the Indonesian side,” he said.
The former Tanzanian coach wanted to learn important lessons from the Indonesia vs Burundi match. He still saw his team grow despite the defeat.
“For our side, our team continues to grow from this match. You can see what mistakes our team made,” he said.
“But I saw all the players showing their character. We proved that in the second half and scored one goal. This is a positive thing for our team,” he added.
Furthermore, Burundi will return to face Indonesia on the FIFA Matchday March 2023. The match will still be held at the same stadium on Tuesday (28/3).
