Indonesian National Team Makes History at 2023 Asian Cup, Advances to Last 16 for First Time

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Indonesian National Team (Timnas) made new history at the 2023 Asian Cup. This is because the Indonesian National Team confirmed for the first time that they would advance to the last 16.

Prior to the 2023 Asian Cup, the Indonesian National Team had successfully registered its participation in this event four times. This participation record occurred in the 1996 (United Arab Emirates), 2000 (Lebanon), 2004 (China) and most recently 2007 (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam) editions of the Asian Cup.

During the four times that they have participated in the Asian Cup, Indonesia has not been able to provide a proud achievement considering that Indonesia always loses in the group phase.

Meanwhile, during this year’s participation, Indonesia qualified for the round of 16 with the title of third best in the group stage along with three other teams in groups B, C and E.

Indonesia’s escape occurred after another match in Group F between Kyrgyzstan vs Oman, Thursday (25/1/2004) last night ended with a draw score of 1-1.

These results meant that Oman failed to overtake Indonesia with only 2 points and Kyrgyzstan with 1 point. This is different from Indonesia, which is bigger, which has 3 points.

In the near future, on January 28 2024, the Indonesian National Team will compete against the Australian National Team at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

This match will be quite challenging for the Indonesian National Team considering that the Australian National Team is undefeated in Group B and is the champion in that group.
