Indonesian National Team Defender Elkan Baggott Loaned Again, This Time Upgrading

Baggott is now part of the Cheltenham Town squad in England’s third tier competition.

Indonesian national team defender Elkan Baggott has officially joined Cheltenham Town on loan from Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season.

This will be the 20-year-old’s second loan spell after spending the first spell with Gillingham.

The difference is, this time Baggott leveled up. Gillingham is in League Two or England’s fourth caste, while Cheltenham is in the third caste which is equivalent to its parent club, Ipswich.

Target Baggott with Cheltenham

The young man of British-Indonesian descent was enthusiastic about joining Cheltenham and set a target to be able to help his new team survive in League One.

Cheltenham is currently struggling to avoid the relegation zone, being in 18th place in the temporary standings out of a total of 24 contestants, with the bottom four teams dropping in caste.

“I’m happy to be here. I’m ready to perform, and help the team in the best way I can to ensure we stay in this league,” Baggott said via Cheltenham’s official website.

“I want to help on both sides of the pitch. Obviously I need to do my defensive work but I want to get in the mix and also help the team add goals.”

Baggott report card so far

Baggott made 29 appearances for Gillingham in the first round of League Two this season and scored three goals.

After signing his first professional contract in January 2021, the player with a total of 12 caps for the Indonesian national team agreed to extend his stay at Portman Road for a further three years in June last year.
