Doha –
Coach Indonesian National team Shin Tae-yong regretted that the Indonesian National Team conceded a quick own goal. This makes the plans made fall apart.
Indonesia meets Australia in 2023 Asian Cup Round of 16, Sunday (28/1/2024) evening WIB. Indonesia played aggressively from the early minutes and put pressure on the Australian defense.
Rafael Struick created a golden opportunity in the sixth minute from a shot in front of goal, but the ball went slightly off target. Six minutes after that opportunity, Indonesia conceded the goal due to Elkann Baggott’s suicide.

Jackson Irvine’s shot hit Baggott’s leg and changed direction, breaking into Ernando Ari’s goal. This goal pushed Indonesia to equalize the score.
However, they failed to maximize the opportunities they got and instead conceded at the end of the first half through Martin Boyle’s goal. Entering the second half, Indonesia tried to catch up until finally Craig Goodwin and Harry Souttar finished their resistance.
Australia had the right to advance to the quarter-finals after winning 4-0 and Indonesia also bit their teeth. The result was very stressful for coach Shin Tae-yong because Indonesia was able to start the match well.
Unfortunately, an own goal that came too quickly before 15 minutes of the game had gone on made the plans that had been prepared fall apart.
“First of all, congratulations to Australia. Honestly, if I judge our team’s performance today, this was our best match. Unfortunately, we conceded the first goal because the ball changed direction when our defender tried to block it,” said Shin in a press conference after the match.
“If we hadn’t conceded an unlucky goal, the whole match situation could have been different,” continued Shin.
“In the context of the competition, we didn’t really play badly. Regardless of the four goals that went into our goal, I want to thank the players and am very happy with the performance shown.”
