Indonesian National team through to the finals dramatically by conquering Vietnam. Strategy applied Indra Sjafri in the condition of 10 players proved telling.
Men’s football semifinals SEA Games 2023 meet Indonesia vs Vietnam. The match took place at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, Saturday (14/5/2023).
Indonesia took the lead first through Komang Putra’s goal, before being leveled by Nguyen Van Tung. The Red and White squad led 2-1 at the start of the second half via Muhammad Ferrari’s goal.
Disaster struck Indonesia in the 61st minute after Pratama Arhan was sent off by the referee due to a second yellow card. Vietnam was able to equalize the score 18 minutes later through Bagas Kaffa’s own goal.
Outnumbered players, Indonesian National team survive the onslaught of Vietnamese players and launch counterattacks. The tactic paid off entering injury time.
Substitute, Muhammad Taufany, managed to break into Vietnam’s goal through Indonesia’s counter-attack scheme. The Garuda squad closed the game with a 3-2 win.
Indonesia’s victory over Vietnam was appreciated by political communication expert, Effendi Ghazali. The 56-year-old man praised coach Indra Sjafri’s tactics.
“In my opinion, this is one of the genius coaches. Under time pressure, with 10 players, they finally chose a mix of players and planned three attacks correctly, one of which resulted in (a goal),” said Ghazali to Indra Sjafri in the video received detikSport.
Indra Sjafri said the strategy against Vietnam had been planned beforehand. He thanked the Indonesian people for fully supporting his team at the 2023 SEA Games.
“There must be a strategy in the name of war and thanks for the prayers of the Indonesian people,” he told Ghazali.
