The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has started holding the second round of the National Immunization Sub Week (PIN) for polio which will take place from 19 to 25 February 2024. This second round of SUB PIN is a continuation of the first round of Sub PIN which was held on 15-21 January 2024.
Based on real data in the field during the two days of the second round of SUB PIN implementation, national coverage of Sub PIN Polio in three regions, namely Central Java (Central Java), East Java (Jatim), and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) reached 44.7% with a total target is 3,832,692 children.
Director General (Dirjen) of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health, dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said that the implementation of these two rounds of additional immunization was in response to the Extraordinary Event (KLB) of polio after the discovery of cases in Central Java and East Java. This SUB PIN is carried out in Central Java, East Java and Sleman Regency, DIY.
Meanwhile, coverage for each region, namely Central Java reached 39.9% with a target number of 1,526,559 children, East Java reached 48.8% with a target number of 2,263,785 children, Sleman Regency, DIY, reached 37, 6% with a target number of 42,348 children.
“In Sleman, there are no cases but because of the border with Klaten, Central Java, the recommendation is also to carry out additional immunization in Sleman,” said Director General Dr. Maxi at a virtual press conference, Thursday (25/1/2024).
The Director General continued, the first and second rounds of Sub PIN polio were carried out last month while the minimum distance between rounds was one month with a target of 95%.
“Each Sub PIN round is carried out within one week after that plus one week of sweeping with a minimum distance between rounds of one month with a coverage target of at least 95%,” he said.
The target for additional immunization is children aged 0 to 7 years with a target of 95% immunization coverage. Sub PIN Polio immunization is carried out at community health centers, supporting community health centers, posyandu, schools and other immunization posts under the coordination of the community health center.
Director General Maxi added that the government continues to carry out surveillance activities for acute wilt paralysis and environmental polio. He also asked the public, especially parents, to complete the polio immunization with 4 drops for children aged 1-4 months, 2 injections for children aged 4 to 9 months, and other routine immunizations for children according to age.
“Don’t defecate anywhere, it must fit in the toilet. Don’t be careless, then wash your hands with soap. “Also immediately report to health officials if you experience cases of paralysis in children under 15 years of age,” said Director General Maxi.
