Indonesian Ministry of Health Exceeds Polio Immunization Target: 6.5 Million Children Immunized

Health workers provide polio immunization to students at SD Negeri Tempurejo 1, Kediri, East Java, Monday (15/1/2024). The immunization service using a pick-up and drop-off system at schools is an effort to make the government’s program of providing simultaneous polio immunizations a success in dealing with polio extraordinary events (KLB).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) stated that the coverage of Sub Immunization Week National (PIN) Polio on the fourth day (Thursday, 18/1/2024) reached 76.9 percent. The total target who has been immunized against polio has reached more than 6.5 million children or 76.9 percent.

“This figure has exceeded the expected target,” said Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Indonesian Ministry of Health Maxi Rein Rondonuwu in a statement in Jakarta, Friday (19/1/2024).

Maxi detailed that this coverage was obtained through 6,528,963 children out of a total of 8,491,178 targets who had received the novel Oral Polio Vaccine Type 2 (nOPV2) immunization in Central Java, East Java and Sleman Regency in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. According to him, this target was not only achieved from the combined total of immunizations in the three regions.

“The realization of immunization in each region has also exceeded this figure,” he said.
