Indonesian Minister of Health inspects construction of Surabaya Vertical Hospital with plans to become a super hub for cancer, heart, and stroke services

Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin inspected the construction of the UPT Vertical Hospital in Surabaya on Saturday (13/1/2024). He hopes that this vertical hospital can become a super hub hospital for cancer, heart and stroke services in Indonesia.

Minister of Health Budi and his entourage visited the 7th floor of building A or the main building. The plan is that Surabaya Vertical Hospital will have four buildings, namely the main building, a special building for stroke, a special building for cancer, and a special building to serve heart disease.

“My hope is that this hospital will become a super hub where the big hospitals we are building in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, if you need a referral for more specific services, you can come here,” said Minister of Health Budi. Saturday (13/1/2024).

Apart from Surabaya, the Ministry of Health is also building the same hospital for cancer, heart and stroke services in Makassar, South Sulawesi. It is hoped that this hospital will also be able to become a super hub for Maluku, Papua, Sulawesi and Kalimantan.

The Ministry of Health’s UPT Vertical Hospital building will have four towers or buildings consisting of tower A as the medical center or main building, tower B for heart specialists, tower C for brain specialists, and tower D for cancer specialists.

This vertical hospital is a form of health service transformation. The transformation of health services in Indonesia includes transformation of primary services, referral services, health resilience systems, health financing systems, health human resources and health technology.

Vertical Hospital is also to support the Ministry of Health’s program to accelerate the distribution of hospital services. This Vertical UPT Hospital will be a newcomer from 408 hospitals spread across 38 districts/cities in East Java.

The location for the construction of the UPT Vertical Hospital of the Ministry of Surabaya is on Jalan Indrapura Number 17, Kemayoran Village, Krembangan District, Surabaya City, with a total land area of ​​5.24 hectares.

The construction of this Vertical UPT Hospital is a National Priority Program in the Health Sector which is in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s Work Plan for the 2022-2024 Fiscal Year.

The construction of the Vertical UPT Hospital in Surabaya is designed to be able to provide comprehensive services, especially for catastrophic diseases, in a complete manner from diagnostic, therapeutic, to rehabilitative. The construction of the UPT Vertical Hospital is also to compete with other hospitals in Asia.

The construction of the Vertical UPT Hospital in East Java, especially in Surabaya, is a manifestation of the responsibility of the Central Government, in this case the Ministry of Health, to increase access to quality and affordable tertiary referral health services; and serving the people of East Java Province and all Indonesian people.

The basis for determining the location of the UPT Vertical Hospital in Surabaya is because it has good accessibility from various regions in Indonesia. Apart from having quite a lot of direct air flight routes, including international routes to and from Asia, Europe, America, Australia.

With this easy accessibility, UPT Vertical Hospital Surabaya can reduce the burden on queues for heart, cancer and stroke services in the Java region. Apart from that, Surabaya Vertical UPT Hospital can expand the range of services on an Indonesian scale.

The existence of the UPT Vertical Hospital in Surabaya will strengthen the existing referral health service system. This UPT Vertical Hospital will also be developed into a teaching hospital that carries out educational functions, a research center and health development.
