Indonesian Minister Facilitates Participation of Israeli Athletes in World Beach Games 2023 Despite Political Tensions

The Israeli men’s 3×3 basketball team qualified through the qualifying round along with 16 other teams consisting of Mongolia, Japan, China, the United States, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya, Uganda, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Israeli women swimmers are entitled to tickets to the 2023 World Beach Games Bali after passing the qualifying round of the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Budapest in 2022.



Regarding the presence of Israeli athletes, Dito agreed with President Joko Widodo who said that political affairs cannot be combined with sports. Indonesia’s own stance clearly continues to support Palestinian independence in accordance with the existing constitution.

“Reflecting on the experience of the U-20 World Cup, I as Menpora will prioritize communication, collaboration, and I will connect all stakeholder so that the differences have a meeting point,” said the 32-year-old minister. “So I think with diplomacy and coordination everything can be done.”

The World Beach Games is the largest water sports event in the world with more than 1,500 athletes participating. There are a total of 14 events consisting of water polo, 3×3 basketball, aquathlon, water badminton, beach handball, beach volleyball, beach tennis, beach soccer, open swimming, beach wrestling, karate, sprint rowing, surfing, and wing surfing.
