The Sutomo Hospital in East Java, Indonesia recorded the case in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, stating that when a 43-year-old Indonesian man sought medical treatment, he stated that he had undergone surgery from a self-made incision since 2017. , inserting a toothbrush into the penis and then having sex with a partner. There has been no accident and the toothbrush can be successfully taken out afterwards.
This time, while having sex with his female partner in a female-on-male position, his toothbrush accidentally broke, causing him severe pain. But he did not seek medical treatment immediately. The doctor in charge of the diagnosis pointed out in the report that although the penis has no bones, it may be “fractured” if it is hit by gravity. When the penis is erect, two sponge tubes called corpus cavernosum need to fill with blood and harden. If the surrounding sponge tubes rupture, it will cause “fracture.” In most cases, there will be a cracking sound when the penis is broken, and then it will turn purple and swollen.
Doctors repaired the man’s broken penis in a two-hour operation and he was discharged from the hospital three days later. The report stated that when he was followed up one month later, he was able to urinate normally without any complications or sequelae.
Doctors remind that penile fractures usually occur suddenly and require immediate treatment. Although the true incidence is unknown, cases generally occur in men aged 30 to 50 years.
