Indonesian Lifter Legend Lisa Rumbewas Dies, Ministry of Youth and Sports Offers Condolences

Indonesian lifter legend Lisa Rumbewas just died. The Ministry of Youth and Sports offers its condolences.

Lisa Rumbewas died on Sunday (14/1) at around 03.00 WIT at Jayapura District Hospital. The deceased was said to have had a history of epilepsy which resulted in him being hospitalized due to a relapse on January 6.

While in the hospital, Lisa also experienced quite severe seizures. The team of doctors has given him anti-seizure medication and several other drugs. Lisa is planned to be buried on Monday (15/1/2024) tomorrow.

Lisa’s passing left deep sorrow for the Indonesian sports community. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is no exception, which expressed its deep condolences to the bereaved families.

“The entire extended family of the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports would like to express their deepest condolences for the passing of the legendary Indonesian lifter, Lisa Raema Rumbewas, who died on Sunday (14/1), at around 03.00 WIT at Jayapura District Hospital,” said the Ministry of Youth and Sports via its account. his Instagram.

“In her career, Lisa Rumbewas participated in the Olympics three times and always managed to contribute medals to Indonesia through her participation in these three events.”

“Lisa Rumbewas won silver medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics (48 kg class) and the 2004 Athens Olympics (53 kg class). At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Lisa won a bronze medal in the 53 kg class.”

“Apart from winning three Olympic medals, Lisa Rumbewas also made Indonesia proud at the regional level, including by successfully bagging a gold medal at the 2009 SEA Games, a silver medal at the 2001 SEA Games, and a bronze medal at the 2003 SEA Games.
